“Your Vote at Town Meeting Creates our Community:”
The Friends of the J. V. Fletcher Library, Inc. remind you that the J. V. Fletcher Library is a municipal service whose budget is funded at Westford’s Annual Town Meeting (to be held this year on Saturday, March 27). The Fletcher Library constitutes only 1.6% of the Town Budget. This year, we ask your support of the Town Manager’s recommended budget level which includes Sunday hours and keeps the library certified (which means that you don’t lose Interlibrary Loan privileges or the ability to use any other Public Library in the State). Your attendance and support at Annual Town Meeting on March 27 are simply another form of Library FRIENDship. See you there! And thank you!
Did you know that our free Databases are kid friendly too?
For example, consider two typical, “hot” topics often used for School Assignments: geography and animals. The following are two free databases that the Library offers that would help you nail these assignments:
The Global Road Warrior – The Ultimate Guide to the World is colorful and easy to navigate. Not only loaded with pictures, country facts, and maps; kids (and adults) can learn about the society and culture of a nation, such as: how to greet people;the commonly held stereotypes; superstitions; food and recipes; holidays and festivals; and attitudes toward time and punctuality (in Brazil, it’s ok to arrive 30 minutes late to a social dinner at someone’s home). The information is current and you can find a country from a drop down list, a search box, or an interactive map.
International Wildlife covers species from every branch of the animal family. Each entry has an article that describes the animal, its special characteristics, and lifestyle along with a sidebar of facts like class, order, family genus and species, weight, length, distinctive features, diet, breeding, lifespan, and habitat. A map shows the location of animal in the world and each article is accompanied by full citation.
UPDATE ON: The Library’s Rear Entry Project:
Now that we have our shiny new copper roof and drainspouts (which will age to the patina of the drainspouts on the front of the building -- which were shiny at first as well) the final stage of the construction (this April) will be to replace the glass wall of doors and window surrounds with an energy efficient glass wall of doors and window surrounds!
State and Federal Tax Forms:
We still have a large supply of 2009 tax forms available in the Reference area. If you prefer, you can also go on-line and print out federal forms from the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/ and state forms from the Massachusetts Department of revenue http://www.mass.gov; click on the tab “For Residents”, scroll down to “Consumer” and click on the subheading “Taxes”.
In recognition of Easter the Library will be closed on Sunday, April 4, 2010.
